MU-BI encourages all Micronesians living on the Big Island to complete the Micronesian Migrants Survey form. Doing so will help the FSM in advocating for the needs and positive contributions of Micronesians to the local economy, culture, etc.
From the Micronesian Migrants Survey website:
“The Compacts of Free Association require reporting on negative impact of Micronesian migrants to US Areas. The FSM Government wants to find out both positive and negative impact – contributions in terms of salaries and expenditures as well as use of welfare and food stamps – and so has funded surveys in Hawaii, Guam, CNMI, and the US Mainland.
These surveys will provide a more a complete picture of the migrant groups by collecting information on demographics, health, welfare, housing, and cultural aspects. These snapshots will provide a contemporary portrait of the Micronesian migrants, both to assist agencies on Guam, Saipan, Hawaii, and the US Mainland, and for FSM to look towards return migrants for its own planning – educated and skilled workers outside FSM who might come back to Micronesia to assist in economic, social, and political development.”
